Crime Stoppers is a non-profit organization, made up of a board of concerned citizens to support the efforts of law enforcement agencies in Southwest Missouri. The program is designed to develop information in solving felony crimes. It offers cash rewards up to $1,000 to persons who furnish information leading to the arrest and filing of charges against persons involved in felony offenses. The program is funded by private donations; no tax dollars are used to pay rewards.
Crime Stoppers can accept anonymous online tips using the TipSoft secure web site. Photos from your camera, cell phone or other sources may also be submitted using the online form. There is no way to trace your tip and no effort made to identify you. In addition, the SPD now has the capability to receive text tips for any crimes in which the texter wishes to remain anonymous but notify the SPD. To view a demonstration and see how it would work with your phone, go to TipSoft and follow the link on the right side which says "Text-a-Tip" in the "For Citizens" area.
Anyone with text messaging can simply text "417SPD" plus your message to 274637 (CRIMES). Upon reception of a tipster’s first incoming message, the system will auto-reply with a confirmation containing their unique Tip ID number. To submit follow-up information, the tipster simply replies to the confirmation text or they can send a new text with their Tip ID number within the text. Nothing else is needed. To cancel a tip, text STOP into the system at any time.
