Process for Applying for Firefighter
  • Apply online.
  • Submit all required documentation.  Candidates must submit appropriate documentation prior to the application deadline.  For example, if you possess 36 hours of college credit as a minimum qualification, you must submit a college transcript by the deadline.  Candidates who fail to submit appropriate documentation prior to the deadline will not be considered or invited to test.
  • Prepare and watch your email for information regarding the testing cycle.
Depending on circumstance, some out-of-state candidates may be offered the opportunity to interview the day after completion of the written exam. This option will be subject to available interview slots and by prior request only.

Note: To receive credit for college education, you must submit your college transcript with your application.
 
The eligible list established as a result of this job posting will be used for a minimum of six months or until the list is exhausted.
 
City employees desiring consideration, please be aware that according to Merit Rule 10.1(c), no city employee “shall be deemed eligible for promotional examination whose last service rating was not satisfactory.” 

After the entire process concludes, only those applicants who satisfactorily complete each phase of the testing process will be considered eligible for hire. The list of eligible candidates remains in effect until a new list is established at the completion of the next process - typically the same time the following year.
