Ozark Workforce Development Board to launch free Multi-Trade Pre-Apprenticeship

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Springfield, Missouri - The Ozark Region Workforce Development Board is releasing a Pre-Apprenticeship program in May to assist individuals with gaining experience while working towards a Registered Apprenticeship in the Construction and Trades Industry. Based on the State of the Workforce Survey results and comments, employers emphasize a need for internships and apprenticeships in the industry. The Pre-Apprenticeship Multi-Trade Orientation (PAMTO) is a four week program designed to prepare individuals to enter and succeed in Registered Apprenticeship programs. The program is offered at no charge to participants and will allow them to gain experience and insight into the participating trades: Carpenters, Plumbers & Pipefitters, and Laborers. Participants will also receive training for OSHA 10, soft skills, resumes, and interviews.

A limited number of candidates will be selected through a screening process beginning with an information orientation on Thursday, May 5 from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm at the Missouri Job Center, 2900 E Sunshine, Springfield, MO. Applicants are encouraged to bring resumes to the orientation to review with staff in preparation for interviews the following Monday, May 9. The Pre-Apprenticeship program will begin May 23 and end June 17. Participants will have the opportunity to meet with area Contractors on the final day of the program.

Applicants must meet certain eligibility guidelines to be selected into the program. Candidates must meet all of the requirements listed in group A as well as one requirement in group B.
A- Drivers license, reliable transportation, and high school diploma or equivalent B- Income eligibility guidelines, receive food stamps, receive TANF, receive unemployment benefits within the last five years(and unlikely to return to job), previously dependent on another person's income and no longer supported by said person, self-employed with a failing business, OR DD214 within the last five years (not showing dishonorable or retired discharge)
