Towns served as the Public Information Officer at the Health Department until spearheading the creation of SGCHD's Division of Chronic Disease Prevention. Towns graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine/Athletic Training and later a Master’s of Public Health from Missouri State University. After beginning her career in public health at the American Cancer Society, she was afforded opportunities to serve patients during their cancer journey as well as work in a preventative realm by serving as the Regional Director of Government Relations. In this role, Towns worked with staff and the community to initiate the coalition and strategic plan that would form One Air Alliance and eventually lead to the adoption of the smokefree ordinance in Springfield, Missouri. A transfer to the City of Springfield at the Springfield-Greene County Health Department allowed Towns to serve as the Public Information Officer and eventually spearhead the initiation of the Division of Chronic Disease Prevention. In March of 2013, Towns joined CoxHealth as the System Director of Corporate and Community Health and has been delivering strategic wellness initiatives and population health management tactics aimed to improve health outcomes and the overall state of health of the corporations and the community.
