The Springfield Police Department is seeking to hire the most qualified men and women, including those with current police officer experience. If you would like to work for a professional organization that values your dedication and invests in your development, we encourage you to join our team. Our training programs are known across the region for their excellence and our officers have career opportunities to be in a variety of special assignments.
Become a Civilian Employee
Nearly 20 percent of the Springfield Police Department is comprised of civilian employees who serve in a broad variety of administrative, technical and operational positions. Every member plays an integral role in day-to-day operations of the Department. SPD regularly seeks qualified applicants to serve in civilian capacities.
The Cadet Unit is a volunteer operational unit designed to prepare the cadets (age 16-20) for a career in law enforcement while supplementing the resources of the department. A cadet is required to fulfill at least four hours of service to the department each month. Some duties include providing assistance with the Ozark Empire Fair, dignitary visits, tours, parades and other events.
