*Depending on circumstance, some out-of-state candidates may be offered the opportunity to interview the day after completion of the written exam and physical agility test.  This option is very limited and must be required and approved in advance.

Process for Applying for Firefighter

  • Apply online.
  • Submit all required documentation.  Candidates must submit appropriate documentation prior to the application deadline.  For example, if you possess 36 hours of college credit as a minimum qualification, you must submit a college transcript by the deadline.  Candidates who fail to submit appropriate documentation prior to the deadline will not be considered or invited to test.
  • Prepare and watch your email for information regarding the testing cycle.
The eligible list established as a result of this job posting will be used for a minimum of six months or until the list is exhausted.
 
City employees desiring consideration, please be aware that according to Merit Rule 10.1(c), no city employee “shall be deemed eligible for promotional examination whose last service rating was not satisfactory.” 
 
Candidates must satisfactorily complete each phase of the testing process to be considered eligible for hire. The list of eligible candidates remains in effect until a new list is established at the completion of the next process - typically the same time the following year.
